Big Bear Bash, June 27-28-29, 1997The Big Bear trip of 1997 took us to Big Bear Lake where we camped at the Presbyterian Campground at the edge of the lake. The campground is located in the pine trees and includes excellent facilities. The weather was perfect with warm and sunny skies. The "show and shine" produced a line of about 40 cars that were judged by the club members. The first day's trip took us through the mountains on the south side of Big Bear Lake. We drove along the Osita Camp truck trail and were treated to a wonderful view of the valley. We then proceeded down Clark's Grade and along Front Line road to the Converse Forest Service station where we ere met by the Chuck Wagon. We had a great barbecue lunch and then proceeded up Radford Truck Trail. From there we made our way back over the mountain ridge and took Moonridge road back to the lake. The next day, the winners of the previous days judging were announced, followed by a raffle that included terrific items donated by the sponsors listed below ! Jim Guthrie won BEST MEYERS MANX and BEST OF SHOW with his beautifully restored Manx Life Guard Buggy. The run for the day took us to the mountains on the north side of the lake to historic Holcolm Valley. We stopped at the Belleville cabin to stretch our legs and admire the beautiful valley. We made our way along Holcolm Valley Road to a spot where about half of the group took a challenging trail up the side of Gold Mountain. From the top of Gold Mountain there was a terrific view of Big Bear Lake and the San Bernadino Mountains. Our trip was concluded with a perfect lunch along the shore of the lake.

He and another couple of friends shipped their buggies to Florida and drove across the US to California. We first met them at the VW Classic car show in Irvine and invited them to join us at Big Bear. Both of the buggies from Holland are water pumpers (Rob's is a VW Rabbit engine) and build for very heavy duty use. |
